About The Event
The Norfolk school district and Norfolk Special Education Parents Advisory Council (SEPAC) are looking for parent volunteers who want to read books about special needs to the classrooms in both HOD and FK schools to help teach our typically developing kids about their special-needs peers. If you are interested in volunteering, it can be very rewarding and takes 20-30 minutes of your time. The readings are part of the iCare (Introducing Children to Acceptance through Reading and Education) program into our schools.
Readings will start the first week in January and go until February break at both schools. Norfolk SEPAC will hold two volunteer training sessions on Monday, 12/2/24 at 9:00am and 7:00pm (length 30-60 min depending on Q&A). The Norfolk Schools' adjustment counselors will be in attendance to walk through how to guide post-reading discussion and address questions from students.
